Gas Bottle Safety Awareness

A half-day safety awareness seminar for all those involved in the use, handling & storage of compressed [cylinder] gases.

The structure of the course

  • Introduction: Including, aim & objective, legal background & guidance.
  • Gas classification and packaging: Including, cylinder design and construction, supplier responsibilities, cylinder valves, leakage and cylinder identification.
  • Gas control equipmnet: Including selection, care, requirements for maintenance and setting up of gas pressure regulators, flashback arrestors, etc.
  • SAFETY IN THE STORAGE AND HANDLING OF GAS
  • Cylinders: To include a short practical session if required.
  • The properties and potential hazards of the gases on site: As per your listing of gases &/or gas mixtures in use on site.
  • Actions to be taken in the event of an emergency: Incidents & accidents - examples to illustrate the key hazards associated with cylinder gases.

Gas Bottle - The inspection and maintenance of gas control equipment

A half-day course that will enable attendees to perform their own inspection, maintenance and testing of portable gas control equipment (regulators, flashback arrestors, hoses, etc.).

INTRODUCTION
Aims & objectives
Legislation applicable, guidance available and relevant Codes of Practice
Definitions; portable versus fixed gas control equipment

THE SELECTION OF GAS CONTROL EQUIPMENT
The function of pressure regulators, flashback arrestors, hoses, etc.
Criteria for the selection of pressure regulators, flashback arrestors and hoses
Applicable standards, etc.

RECOMMENDED 'BEFORE USE' SAFETY CHECKS
Checks to be carried out for each piece of equipment by the user

RECOMMENDED PERIODIC CHECKS AND FUNCTIONAL TESTS
The administration of planned maintenance for gas control equipment - keeping records and labelling equipment

Those steps in addition to the 'visual' before use checks to undertake as part of the planned inspection procedure for pressure regulators, flashback arrestors, hoses, etc.

DEMONSTRATION OF HOW TO CARRY OUT THE PLANNED MAINTENANCE FOR:
Pressure regulators (single and two-stage)
Flashback arrestors (re-set and non re-set types)
Hoses, non-return valves, blowpipes and torches, etc.
Practical session for the delegates (this requires access to their workplace
